Book Reviews

We find this book beyond annoying. Sort of sad, really. We went through it in depth at TSG Book Club. I think we all came to agree that against this background we actually see ourselves growing fond of the first-order historicizing efforts of Conceptualism and Flarf. Notes on Conceptualisms is definitely a step in the wrong direction. (2009) [update: Place is now officially first-order]

Craig Dworkin is such a nerd! Jordan has a total crush. Craig, next time you're in Williamsburg give us a call. We'd like to discuss with you the prospects of doing something similar to Parse with Chomsky's Syntactic Structures. There's nothing more exciting than computational cognitive linguistics. Artist Statement

"Flarf Fixie" (Theoretical Spaces Gallery, Brooklyn) is the first exhibition of the artist collective New York Crew, kicking off their series of visual works, performances and theory installations intended to critically engage the notion of a "contemporary historical avant garde of writing." "Flarf Fixie" examines recent discourses of "Conceptual Writing" and "Flarf" via the constitutive financial ontologies of fine art objects and art-school, hipster culture. A future show in Echo Park, Los Angeles, will similarly deconstruct self-reflexive blind spots in the power narratives of L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E and their students.
